CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ALBUM: The title of my album is shake up the heaven, it was launched on the second of December last year. it is a six tracker album that cut across different genre of music, we have the rock, r n b style, the one with a jazzy and we have the one my friend called the afro pop, it is an album that caters to different choice of musicWHY DID YOU CHOOSE MUSIC HAS A CAREER: MUSIC for me is in born, I am privilege to be born into a family that love music. As matter of fact my parent met themselves in the choir and i am blessed to be married into a family that is music lovers. All along I have been exploring that aspect of my life with every available opportunity i have had to be a part of the chorister, i am a member of faith tabernacle church choir aka winner chapels. I am one of the soloist and one of the praise and worship leaders. That has been an avenue to express myself in music until i took the decision to take my music out to be a blessing to people.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR KIND OF MUSIC: I happen to be one that share the school of thought that for has long as the inspiration is from GOD , GOD is not limited to any style of music. He own all music, everything on earth originated from him and the inspiration come from him, so if he bring the song in reggae, apala it would be very interesting to me, it is all about praising GOD. Bringing out the message for people to hear
THAT MEAN YOU CAN ACTUALLY RAP: I don’t mind trying my hand on it. As long as it glorify GOD.
WHAT ARE THE TYPE OF MUSIC YOU LISTEN TOO GROWING UP:
The same way I am not limited to a style of music is the same way I listen across. I am more passionate about rhyme and blues. It Also consider the type of artiste making the music. For instance I listen to Whitney Houston cece winas, Yolanda Adam it depend on the kind of music they do.
CAN YOU DO THE NORMAL CIRCULAR MUSIC LIKE DOING A LOVE SONG:. As long as it glory GOD. There is a song that we did this year titled my mother, the song was not centered on church but when you listen to it still originate from the essence of our creator. Without GOD you can’t attain anything.
SOME PEOPLE SAY GOSPEL ARTISTE DOESN’T MAKE MONEY LIKE THOSE WHO DO CIRCULAR MUSIC:
WHAT i have seen so far is there is a bias which I found to be subjective, there is this mindset that as long as it is a gospel it only to be played on Sunday and only for church alone where as this is about talent, the same talent that those who sing what people call circular music have is what the gospel artiste have only that they choose to express there in a different way and I don’t think there is any man who would say God is not relevant to him or her from Monday to Saturday. GOD is meant to be a weekly personality in our life. He is still all in all. Whether you are asleep or awake. Without him you can’t be anything. The industry and the environment need to understand that it is wrong to allow that bias. The gospel music in Nigeria is changing. Maybe we now have a lot of youth who don’t have the boldness and courage to take to take it upon in themselves to make a mark in this aspect of there life. If the industry can be supportive a lot of things would change.
SOME People hold on to the opinion that gospel artiste are not to be paid that their music is part of evangelism. What is your take on this. that is another major issue that need to be address, GOD said in the scriptures that occupy till i come , he gave us talent that we should do business with it till I come, that mean God expect us to make use of our talent and make a profit from it. It is still part of the bias I am talking about. People believe because it is a GOD given talent it should be given free. If you want to place anything on media whether is a gospel or not or regular you have to pay your money. Even going into the studio would not be done to you free so why would you treat gospel artiste as if you are running a charity organization. The same way we have Christian and Muslim as lawyers and doctors is the same way we have Christian in the music profession who are full time musician and they also have bills to pay and people to take of so people need to change their mentality to this people, that it is gospel doesn’t mean it should be drag in mud. Everybody should be given an opportunity for fair play
If You ARE ASK TO PERFORM IN A CHURCH, WOULD YOU CHARGE THE CHURCH : Even if it is evangelism, evangelism today cost money, it is very wrong to think because it is gospel it should be free. If I am coming to church and I am coming with my band, this are guys which music is there full time job. How they would now be paid would not be a matter of agreement, or how do you expect them to feed their family and you don’t expect them to steal so people should change their mentality because music is a profession for a lot of people.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU ARE FACING AS A GOSPEL ARTISTE: this two are part of the challenges, because you take your work to the media house and they would tell you they would play it on Sunday and I would start wondering if GOD is just part of our life on Sunday, every other thing is build around the media, if the media are not supportive enough how is the equation going to get balance. Also everything in media today is expensive. it would be very nice if we can have a platform where young talent and upcoming talent can have opportunity where this rocky beginning can be smoothen out with the help of individual and corporate organization. We need to have a platform for emotional support, for financial support and all kind of support.
APART FROM MUSIC WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO: I work as a media consultant in a media independent agency and of course am a mother, I have responsibility also in church. I love doing the little promo I can online.
WHERE DO YOU PLAN TO TAKE YOUR MUSIC TO: To the end of the earth, i look forward to a time and age where is it all over the world, it is GOD, it is about the gospel, it need to get across the world. i am trusting GOD for that to happen.
WHY DID IT TAKE YOU A LONG TIME TO COME OUT: I have been ask that question a number of time, my take on that is that, there is a time and season for GOD plan over our life. The journey actually started with a live praise and worship concert that we had in October, it was while working on that that the idea of doing my album came out. It is GOD timing
WHERE YOU CALLED BY GOD TO DO MUSIC OR WAS IT BORN OUT OF YOUR OWN FLAIR AND PASSION FOR MUSIC : I was not called to do music but there is that inner desire to do music. I just ask myself if there is any given talent i have and it dawn on me it is music.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER ARTISTE THAT WANT TO TAKE THE SAME DIRECTION YOU ARE TAKING: first of all I would want everyone to recognize and give GOD a rightful place in their life outside of him and outside of his plan and purpose for your life you would just be struggling. Be sensitive to know his plan and purpose for your life and what time you are, as the lord lead you and you run with the instruction everything would fall into place. I encourage every youth to give room for GOD in there life and be bold to take the part GOD as outline for them, at end of it they would be able to look back and say see where the load as brought me
